Counselling/Psychotherapy and EMDR

"Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Aristotle

Counselling and psychotherapy provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental place to talk about emotional difficulties, distressing thoughts, relationship problems or other issues affecting your sense of wellbeing.  It offers you the chance to explore and work through your difficulties with someone who is professionally trained to listen and support you.

The role of a Counsellor/Psychotherapist is not to tell you what to do or to give you directive advice.  Instead, a counsellor will work alongside you to help you to understand your thoughts, feelings or challenges more clearly to enable you to make more informed choices or simply feel greater inner peace.

I am also a qualified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) Practitioner. EMDR is an effective and scientifically-research based psychotherapy protocol that helps you process and recover from disturbing/traumatic past experiences that are affecting your wellbeing in the present. It involves using side to side eye movements (or hand taps) combined with talking therapy using a structured format. It is extremely effective for treating PTSD and a wide range of other issues such as anxiety, depression, phobias, addictions, illness/pain, complex grief and abuse. EMDR can be used as a standalone treatment method or integrated into standard counselling sessions to suit your needs.  Watch this short video for a brief explanation of EMDR.

Please note, I do not offer couples counselling.
